Just installed it a few minutes ago. As usual, unplug the SATA and power cables from the back panel, release the latch built into my case that holds the optical drives in place, slide out the old drive, insert the new drive, close that Reconnect the power and SATA cables and lock the latch . My previous WH16NS40 lasted about four years so can't really complain about that. I've ripped countless DVDs with it, but I've only watched about a dozen Blu-ray movies with it, which really didn't work. It will still see and play DVDs, but it has stopped recognizing Blu-Ray discs altogether, and that was my main reason for buying it, to watch Blu-Ray while sitting at my computer. As others have said, you need to purchase or purchase additional software that can play Blu-ray movies. Others have pointed out where to get it. I chose PowerDVD 14 years ago. a word of caution. If you decide to buy it (as of this writing, PowerDVD 17 is the latest version), make sure you keep a copy of the installation and registration key. They will only store the download link on their website for a limited time and you will not be able to re-download it even with a purchase confirmation and they will not respond to emails. Luckily I saved the installation and registration key to an external drive, but enough of that. I've owned countless DVD recorders like most people. These things are not meant to last forever. I'd say, except for the last one, I've had to buy about one a year for the last, uh, I don't know, 20 years? If we take into account the amount we bought at work (I work in IT), internally and externally, it's about hundreds. Since the return window is short in this case, I plan to test it and play one Blu-ray a day for 30 consecutive days to see if it fails. If so, I will update my review to reflect this. I should also note that the disc shown here on Revain is different from the one I received. I like it better, some don't. I'm attaching a picture of what it actually looks like, straight from the LG website.
