First, it's important to understand that this is an NVMe to U.2 adapter, NOT SATA. So why U.2? For most new servers with pluggable drives, U.2 is a SATA option and can take advantage of NVMe drives for much faster speeds and access. I'm actually using this with an ASRock Rack 1U server that supports 10 U.2 drives and uses PCIe 4.0. With this configuration, I was able to sustain 7.14GB sequential reads according to CrystalDiskMark 8 (compared to the typical 0.5GB SATA speeds you typically get). Also, the nominal temperature is around 30 C. I have bought more than 16 Vantec adapters and will continue to buy them.
