Let me start with this statement - I was a XIM user with an XB360. I have "too many" clocks on my XIM device. But I don't let that affect my rating. This is an honest review of a budget device that tries to compete with the XIM.TLDR: It's easy to update via the phone app, has great wireless connectivity, is still a very early product, and is constantly being updated. often - better value for money than XIM if you're looking for a keyboard and mouse to use on a console. I'm giving 3.5 stars but since you can't, I've rounded up as there were already updates even when I checked the unit. Now let's get to the point of the evaluation. build quality. The keyboard is solid but made of plastic. Clearly mechanical. Mouse - Cheap plastic - Removable so you might end up throwing it away Keys - Lightweight and plastic - Feels good but not premium (but doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart) Can be plugged into a console - Easy to plug into a console Console and connect controller - secure connection with phone - must be paired with fn+f4 to edit profiles and update firmware. Once installed, it appears to be a reliable connection. Mouse Super light if that's your thing. The braided cable feels comfortable. All buttons work as they should. It looks very cheap, but at the same time it is solid. The keyboard feels comfortable - definitely mechanical, as mentioned. Sensitivity buttons, nice touch, would rather be profile toggle buttons, but more on that later. The mouse USB port also works with other mice - a nice touch (I changed the mouse immediately after first impression) Software My first test had 2 PS4 profiles, I was disappointed and removed it. But later that night the Destiny profile appeared in the manager and I had more hope. Easy navigation as firmware updates and profiles are the only options. The firmware update process is easy to use on Android. The ability to downgrade the firmware is a huge plus. Switching profiles takes 10-15 seconds as there is no built-in profile switching. Profiles must be updated on each switch (requires saving user profile). Unfortunately, the app didn't read side mouse button input remapping during testing (it reads left and right mouse clicks and mouse wheel). I hope this can be fixed with a software/firmware update. First impression. If the software gets updates to fix the remapping and profiles are created in a timely manner (even XIM profiles take days or weeks to be created), that would be great. XIM alternative. Response to key presses and mouse clicks was on par with XIM Apex. The boxed mouse is a little disappointing, but don't let that get you down as you can replace it just as easily as plugging in a USB device. The software requires advanced options to configure profile options for people not using profiles. that match the games. For example, XIM has a switch that lets you change dead zone curves and X:Y ratios. This product also requires multiple default profiles to allow the console to easily switch between them (e.g. a subsection for each platform). And it is MANDATORY to add to the application which profile is applied to the device. There is currently no way to determine which profile is actually being applied. The build quality of the keyboard area is excellent - I would have preferred the silent switch option as I'm not a big fan of clicks. The mouse is fine as long as you don't set it up. It has back and forward buttons, as well as the standard left and right click. The mouse wheel has "clicks" when rotating and a mouse button. Also a dpi button that changes dpi and mouse highlight color (to reflect dpi). I actually found this very helpful, but not in a good way - see below. Pros The build quality of the keyboard and dongle is excellent Easy connection to console and booklet helps with step-by-step instructions to achieve connectivity XIM Apex with wireless setup (Sony Nav + Logitech G700s). Cons The software needs updates as mentioned (toggle and profile editing options / mouse forward/back button mapping) The mouse is cheap and should be replaced as soon as possible (as a target device it will work, but with minimal expectations). Then you need to buy a keyboard and a mouse. Mouse tracking was questionable - fast movements (macro) were easy to do without pausing, but slow movements (micro) were difficult with the included mouse (poor tracking on small movements) and raising the DPI on the mouse but lowering the sensitivity helped , but made the mouse stopping problem worse...almost like it gets stuck and then frees itself. This is fixable - XIM had the same issues when profiling RB6S. Overall I think the device has plenty of room for it. The ability to use your own mouse is a nice touch. Not requiring a computer to update the firmware is a phenomenal feature (but you do need a computer if you need to update the dongle). Profiles were limited in testing, but having more than one option is great - not all games use the same deadzones. Keyboard keys are easy to replace. The keyboard switches are definitely mechanical and appear to be high quality parts (very responsive). The wireless connection never dropped while using the device. It would be nice to adjust the keyboard timeout (10 minutes seems like a long time for an idle wireless device). This is impressive for a first step towards multi-console support (with timely updates), but has a few hurdles to overcome in order to compete with XIM. Just different thoughts about the device and its future. Decent support (profiles) will be needed in the future unless there are advanced options for editing controls. A full cloud-based profile sharing platform (where users can download and apply shared profiles through the app) may exist to support this product. That's the biggest thing XIM lacks - it would definitely give this device an edge over XIM if it were available (but it requires more profile editing options).
