Review on πŸ’‘ Satco S2236 Dimmable Halogen Bulb by Kevin Graham

So far it works fine but the packaging is misleading about the light output

So far this bulb is working well. I don't normally buy bulbs from brands I've never heard of, but for some reason I couldn't find a bulb of this size in any reputable brand other than LED bulbs. I didn't want an LED for this device (I'm usually a big fan of LEDs). But this bulb is for a fully enclosed recessed fixture over my shower. The electronics in the LED lamp can hardly withstand there without air flow, as it is completely enclosed and submerged, and moisture from the shower. In any case, this lamp is halogen, which is what I wish for this lamp. The declared luminous flux and service life are strangely stated on the packaging. It lists 2 different light outputs of 530 lumens and 400 lumens based on 2 voltages, 130 volts for 530 lumens and 120 volts for 400 lumens. From what I understand they have 120 volts in the US so this is a 400 lumen bulb, not 530 lumen. Ignore the 530 lumens. The lamp replaced was a Sylvania rated at 520 lumens (same power, 39 watts). So this Satco bulb produces about 20% less light than the bulb I replaced with the same current. I knew that when I bought it. To be honest I would go with something else if I could find a better option. Although it shines less than the old light bulb, it is quite suitable for its purpose. So, the main plus: 1) halogen and matches your lamp. 2) Can't find an alternative that is halogen, right size and 39w. you get 400 lumens of light from this one and not 530). (2) A bit expensive for an unknown brand from China. (3) I know it's possible to make a 39w halogen bulb that produces 520 lumens (my old sylvania bulb) so the efficiency of this satco is 20% less than it was at 400 lumens, 39w, should be.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
