Palladium started out as a manufacturer of aircraft tires and then began making boots that were later adopted by the French Foreign Legion. I was about to go camping with my family and haven't had boots in years so I found these. We live in Texas so I didn't want anything super heavy or chunky or hot so I gave these a try. First, they look cool and I've gotten a lot of compliments on them. The fit is good for my 9.5 feet. They feel sturdy and the sole has such nice padding on the inside. They're very similar to the upper of the sneakers with the bottom of the boots, so they're not monstrous clunkers. No real break in period, they were comfortable from the first time I put them on. They did a very good job camping, probably walked the trails for about 10 miles and did great. Where they really shined was on the last day we decided to start geocaching. The first one was at the top of the hill and wasn't difficult to find, but we completely screwed up access to the second cache. In the end, we leave all tracks and hike through the wilderness of Tyler National Park. So we hack through the thorny bushes and climb the dead trees getting completely lost and I was happy to put on boots that protect my ankles from thorns, brambles and support my ankles. [.] Look from the trail and that's the kind of terrain we drove the trucks through. So they pretty much passed the test, cool enough to wear to work, comfortable enough to walk in all day and tough enough to take off the trail. They were covered in mud etc after this hike so they were washed in cold water and dried on their own so they looked like new. I don't know how waterproof they are, so I'll probably waterproof them. Overall I am very happy with these boots. for $37.00.
