I have been heating with pellet stoves for the last 4 years and this sensor has greatly improved the performance of my stoves. Before using this sensor I adjusted it by eye, you know, avoid sluggish flame or blowtorch flame and adjust to get an efficient flame. I thought I did it right but had no idea how far I got and unfortunately now I know the advice from the forums wasn't that good. Here's what's improved when heating my New England home: 1. I get the same amount of heat on the lowest setting as I do on the medium-high setting. 2. A 40 lb bag of 0.6% low moisture ash pellets will last as long as 2 bags (or more). 3. My glass stays clean. 4. Clinkers gone. 5. Ash no longer accumulates in the combustion boiler. 6. I clean the pot and combustion chamber with the supplied brush, no more spatula. Here's what you may need and how to go about it: The transducer and housing are sold separately here at Revain. The case kit is lined on the inside and comes with an instrument mount, some mounting hardware and a tube. The stove is set to maximum and it's hot, so with this set everything has become a lot easier for me. The highly flexible, rubber-like hose is long, making it easy to keep away from hot surfaces, and the case is great for storage. I also used teflon tape when assembling the sensor, you will need to screw in the plugs and nipples that come with the kit. Flame setting: I set the stove to maximum and let it run for 30 minutes. My oven has a small hole in the front that goes straight into the firebox, which is actually in vacuum, that's what the gauge shows. I have a firebox adapter that fits the pipe and hole perfectly. The final step was to extend and retract the damper to set my oven's gauge at 0.10-0.13 WC (inches of water). Wow, the flame didn't look like what I expected at all, it burns pretty slowly but generates so much heat. Also, I noticed that there was a lot of heat coming out of the vent tube (outside) and I thought it was a feature of the oven. This was another dramatic change: now the air coming out of the vent pipe is much cooler, still quite warm but no longer hot. This tells me that a lot less heat is wasted and more gets into my house where it should be. Hope that helps.
