I'm a fan of simple solutions. Modern pump filters sometimes make noise or draw too much current. That's why I installed this "old fashioned" system. This device works well, it takes about a week for the bacteria to take root, but it will control the ammonia levels. (Tank 20 gallons). Disadvantages: The material is brittle and brittle. I break easily if I'm not careful. The spout is very short and must not reach the water surface. I didn't want the outlet to be submerged, so I extended the pipe a few inches with a piece of clear tubing. I also placed a pack of activated charcoal in the bottom water chamber which helps purify the water. Conclusion: Definitely worth the money. Would have given 5 stars if the exhaust was adjustable to allow more flexibility in terms of heights. Next to? Works perfectly without having to buy expensive filter material.
