Review on G-STORY Portable FreeSync Speakers Nintendo 15.6" 165Hz Ultrawide Screen with Wall Mount & Flicker-Free Technology, 1920x1080p Display - GST56 by Joseph Bondurant

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Mostly good, but frame drops at 165 Hz and auto-rotation are not fixed in landscape mode.

Overall it's pretty good and one of the few high refresh rate portable monitors available. Pros: - Runs at 144Hz with no dropped frames. Most other competitive portable monitors run at a maximum frequency of 60Hz. The price is pretty good, costing a lot less than an ASUS 240Hz portable monitor, even though this monitor has a higher refresh rate and a larger 17-inch screen has. The screen diagonal is 15 inches and is quite thin. Bezels (barely) fit in my Magichold 360 tablet holder. The mini-HDMI port is pretty sturdy. I had another portable monitor that was extremely finicky with the connector and dropped the signal at the slightest touch. The "rotate feature" is quite annoying as it claims to use a gyroscope to determine the screen's orientation, but it doesn't always match the orientation you intend to use it in, especially when it's on a stand or tablet bracket is mounted. Even if you disable auto-rotation, it still sets the initial orientation when you turn it on, and it does so after waking from sleep mode. This allows the "native resolution" to be set to 1080x1920 in portrait mode, which can lead to compression, distortion or a blank screen, especially at >60Hz. To fix this, you have to re-enable auto-rotate in the OSD, fiddle with the screen until it switches to landscape mode, and then disable auto-rotate, which is a big hassle. Navigating the OSD with the dial is quite annoying as there is only one "button" (pressing the dial).
