Review on Enhanced SEO: Legrand Radiant Self Test Tamper Resistant USB Outlet 1597TRUSBACLA by Athenasby Whitney

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great design and quality, but limited USB performance. A very deep electrical box is required.

This GFCI/USB combo outlet is a great way to reduce the clutter associated with charging your phone/tablet in the kitchen, bathroom, garage or other GFCI protected area. As you'd expect from Pass & Seymour, the quality is top-notch, with tamper-resistant sockets that are secure, yet easy to use (much less finicky than other brands of TR sockets I've used). The device is equipped with a red LED display that only lights up in the event of an error, so that no disturbing lights can be seen during normal operation. devices/cables. However, it is disappointing that only 2.1A (10W) of charging capacity is shared between both ports. This means choosing between charging one device at normal speed or charging two devices slowly. It's also worth noting that the charging ports are independent of AC outlets, so your USB devices won't lose power if the GFCI is triggered. Installation is easy and the bezel is conveniently included, but this unit is much thicker than a regular GFCI outlet (5/8 inch larger than the one I replaced). Due to the unit's overall depth of 2-1/4 inches (of which approximately 2 inches is behind the mounting bracket), a very deep electrical box is a must. The good news, however, is that both side and rear clamp wiring methods are supported, just like a regular AC outlet. Adding even more cables and connectors to an already crowded switch box.) Overall, this GFCI/USB combo jack is high quality, well designed and made by a trusted brand. I just wish it offered more power for USB charging as the total 10W output pales in comparison to the fast charge standards supported by most of the latest phones and tablets.

Pros
  • Provides reliable ground fault protection with a trip indicator and reset button on the outlet for easy and inexpensive troubleshooting. Quickly set up with a redesigned side cable compartment for easier access.
Cons
  • Slightly Crumpled
