update, a few rides since first review: ok those solar guns squeak more than usual even when dry. However, if they last 70% longer than Shimano pads, I will most likely buy them again. I have a feeling that the noise audible at moderate deceleration, e.g. when shifting down a hill, can be seen as an advantage to warn others. I'm pretty used to them. First Review: For the price ($10!) I'm very happy with these polymer brake pads. I ride the Spec Stumpjumper 29er on the trails of the Colorado Front Range in dry and changeable conditions (some snow, some mud). It took me 5 minutes to break in the brakes - wet a set of brakes with water, accelerate to 15 minutes. -20 mph, then brake almost to the stop without locking the brakes, repeat several times; Then do the same for the other kit. I've ridden over 100 miles with these pads and they work flawlessly. I heard a little more squeaking from them than my previous pads, but I rode during the spring thaw so it doesn't bother me in any way. Buy, assemble and drive. If I notice significant degradation or short lifespan I will return to upgrade.
