Review on SSK 4TB Personal Cloud NAS Storage with Auto-Backup, Wireless Remote Access - Includes Hard Drive for Phone/Tablet PC/Laptop, Ideal for Home Office by Chad Judex

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good product, works as expected but the documentation is beyond bad

Good news first, as a NAS it works well and at a great price. However, this is a mixed bag. For those looking for instructions on how it works, you're out of luck. Nowhere in the box is there a product description or instructions on how to get started. There is no file on the drive recognized as an instruction unless you are reading Chinese. And nowhere does it say that the directory with the Chinese name contains the Windows installation files necessary for it to work on Windows. I only gave the product three stars because SSK needs to understand what they really need to offer the consumer and just putting the documentation with Chinese filenames and directories on a hard drive is not enough. So the rating breakdown is four for the disc, one for the documentary, and I'm more than fair to average that to three. Now instructions: 1. Download SSKCloud app (Android or IIS) and connect to your drive. There is a management procedure that initializes the disk for use when you do this. 2: My drive is connected via ethernet, if you need to use wifi I haven't seen anywhere that you initiate a wifi connection, but that could be because I already have a wired connection. User ID and Password. This is from your mobile device, the SSKCloud app doesn't require a mobile connection setup, but I believe you need to establish a connection between your device and Windows. If you are not connected to an ethernet network then you must do this and I did not go through this thread.4. Install the 64-bit version of SKKCloud Setup for Windows. I found it through a google search and didn't realize it was the file I needed. There is no documentation or guide on the SKK website on how this works. As it turned out, the instructions are on the disk, but this is the filename with Chinese characters, and since I don't read Chinese, I didn't understand that this was necessary to make my life easier. I also didn't realize that the directory with the Chinese name contained the SSKCloud setup executable. I was pushy and because the documentary is so terrible for the US market I gave it this rating. Pay attention to SKK if you want to sell in the US market you have the instructions on their website and also on the diskette. Better yet, print out the instruction page and put it in the box, that would help a lot. 5. Connect the drive in Windows after installation and login. This allows you to use the NAS as another drive. Again, there are no instructions anywhere. Revain, I hope you read these reviews. For technology-based products, you must have some sort of minimum guide that the supplier must post or list on their product page. The supplier gets a black eye for missing documentation, but so do you. And for the non-technical folks who bought one of these, you're sure to get bang for your buck.
