I'm sure they will do better in a much smaller biological size aquarium.
They fit nicely in my 55 gallon tank. I'm sure they will do better in an aquarium with a much lower biological load than mine. They don't work well with goldfish due to the high amount of ammonia that goldfish produce without the addition of additional chemicals. Generally they worked well but I have to change them every two weeks for my two 11 inch goldfish.
