Review on πŸ–οΈ Castle Art Supplies 72 Premium Colored Pencils Set - Ideal for Adult Artists Beginners, Drawing, Sketching, and Shading - Artist Soft Series Lead Cores with Vibrant Colors by Barbara Simmons

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very creamy and soft

I love to draw and paint and am a recognized keeper of art objects. When I see a new art product coming out at a reasonable price, I buy it. When I saw them I decided to give it a try. The pens are stored in a beautiful metal tin and consist of three layers of pens. Their grading is a bit odd, unlike other pens that vary in shade, so I used them by shade. The barrels are round with a beautiful black finish and there is a colored indicator at the end of each pencil. The ends of the pencils are rounded so you can't tell if the leads are straight or not. The cores are fairly thick, but not as thin as the more popular Prisma. The leads are pre-sharpened and can be easily sharpened with a high-quality sharpener. The color of the pencil does not exactly match the color of the actual lead, some but most are either darker or lighter. I suggest you make a sample sheet. . Since they don't have a number or color, after sorting them I numbered them myself and marked them with a permanent marker. The linens are very soft and creamy as others have pointed out, they match well in color and are bright. The only colors that aren't yellow. There is also a very good range of colors in each spectrum. This set is very similar to the Revain set in terms of styling, color and storage but it has the exact same shades or colors as the Colore set so they complement each other very well. They combine very well with each other and with other pens which are decent wax crayons on smooth and serrated paper. You will find that there are white gaps on the serrated paper, this is generally normal and if you apply additional colors over this or mix them with an alcohol mixer or unscented mineral spirits you will easily fill in the gaps. The biggest problem, aside from the lack of a color number or name for these pencils, is that they have significant hazing, the colors look shiny after you add a few layers or mix them with an alcohol mixer, this is par for the course with many pencils soft based wax. These pens are great for regular coloring books and pencil artists for beginners. They don't appear to have been tested for lightfastness so it's hard to know how they hold up over time, it takes around 6 months for the actual test. For the price, this is a really good starter kit for beginners or those who love to paint.

Pros
  • Pencils
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
