Review on πŸ’½ Transcend TS512GSSD370: 512GB MLC SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5-Inch Internal SSD for Enhanced Performance by Adam Huper

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Unreliable and short-lived

Originally bought for a laptop when 500GB was no longer considered decent storage, it was quickly upgraded to OS and software (including IDE programming, gaming and grid computing). projects) for the desktop. A large number of files were moved, created and deleted, but this is not typical of an evolving environment, not even a typical office PC, as tasks have been shared with a newer laptop since early 2016. Windows 7 was configured to not cache writes to disk, no scheduled defragmentation, it was done, which is even better after upgrading to Windows 10 almost 2 years ago. Earlier this year I noticed that sometimes the drive is not recognized at boot, the SSDScope utility reported a 5% drive life expectancy (actually it turned out the opposite and reported 5% wear out, but I think I either got it wrong or misunderstood), only a few months after the end of the 3-year guarantee period. In preparation for the inevitable, I stopped using it to install programs, my personal files were moved, and I bought an nVME drive. It's been around 2-3 months since it wrote and read its last bits, no BIOS can detect it, its storage capabilities are gone due to the limitations of MLC technology, a small moment of existence compared to its mechanical cousins and more trains brothers 3D NAND. (or sisters if you prefer).

Pros
  • Good value for money
Cons
  • weak
