At first I thought that the USB connection not only powers the speaker, but also leads to the internal sound chip, and the jack cable is for the alternative signal input. Therefore, I only needed a USB cable to connect to my system. Neither the specifications, nor the descriptions, nor the questions and answers say anything. I was wrong. USB only powers the speaker. Audio input only via the jack socket. Well I could work with that, but the USB and phone jack cables are connected. In my setup, the speakerphone jack is a few feet away from the nearest USB port. So I had to find a separate USB extension cable to power the device. You can also buy an audio cable extension. Also, you can cut the attached cables to separate them, but what a mess. Another annoyance was that the speakers had a very difficult time reproducing the bass. I had to set an equalizer to make the result acceptable.
