Review on Enhanced OXO SteeL Winged Corkscrew featuring Detachable Foil Cutter by Ryan Person

Thin, flexible plastic body, not suitable for work

The flyer says it is steel. The only steel used on this corkscrew is the handles and the corkscrew. The black case that holds all the components together is thin, black, plastic. It's not strong enough to work. When you screw the corkscrew into the cork, the steel handles will extend and lift as expected. However, when you then squeeze the steel handles to remove the stopper, the black plastic body begins to flex and stretch under pressure, collapsing around the neck of the wine bottle. Very bad design. It seems that Oxo's product developers have never tested this product on a real wine bottle with a tight or moderately tight cork. The black plastic body must be made of steel or aluminum to withstand the pressure created when removing (pulling) the cork from the bottle. Luckily I was able to fix my old metal corkscrew, a winged model similar to this one. So this poor oxo goes in the trash.

Pros
  • Corkscrew and opener
Cons
  • Dubious purchase for the elderly
