Well designed but fragile

Loved the design features, like the foil cutter serving as the base for the bottle opener. But within the first few weeks (of once-daily use) the thin plastic sides of the opener broke. stick tape on it. A little shaky, but it worked. A piece broke off yesterday. Good design but not thick enough.

Pros
  • Self-centering screw with non-stick coating easily removes any type of cork
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Big and chunky, the best of corkscrews and bottle openers

Bought this because of my good luck with OXO products. I don't like this opener at all. The label cutter does not work at all. A real corkscrew is big and clumsy. I'm a fairly tall woman (5ft 10in) and need to put the bottle on a chair for it to work. It took me a while to figure out how to get the used cork out, but I finally figured it out. I would not recommend and would not order again. However, I doubt it will break anytime soon.

Pros
  • Curved molded handles for a comfortable grip
Cons
  • Security

Not as strong as I had hoped

I ordered this to replace a similar corkscrew that we finally broke many years ago. It was very strong, made of fairly heavy, solid metal. This one has a plastic body and doesn't seem to be that durable, although the corkscrew itself is of pretty good quality. I've been using for a few months. It works well and the included cutter is handy although I have a better one which I usually prefer. I was disappointed that it's lighter, but it may be preferable for some people.

Pros
  • Removable foil cutter snaps into base for easy storage
Cons
  • Don't really like it is fine

When it comes to kitchenware, I always try to buy OXO. But this is the first OXO item I've bought that I don't like. The foil knife works as it should, but the opener took a little getting used to. At first I couldn't figure out how to get the cork out of the corkscrew once it was out of the bottle, but after playing with it for a while I figured it out. Good thing I don't have to use pliers anymore!

Pros
  • Corkscrew with Wings
Cons
  • Something else

Thin, flexible plastic body, not suitable for work

The flyer says it is steel. The only steel used on this corkscrew is the handles and the corkscrew. The black case that holds all the components together is thin, black, plastic. It's not strong enough to work. When you screw the corkscrew into the cork, the steel handles will extend and lift as expected. However, when you then squeeze the steel handles to remove the stopper, the black plastic body begins to flex and stretch under pressure, collapsing around the neck of the wine bottle. Very…

Pros
  • Corkscrew and opener
Cons
  • Dubious purchase for the elderly
