We have a beloved elderly cat who makes us jump up at 2am to go to the litter box to open the windows during a snow storm. I will not describe the bad. As we open the windows I hear raccoons coughing in the yard. I leave this air purifier in a 20 x 20 room (which is a little larger than designed). At level 1, it combats normal cat litter odors. If an older cat starts to itch, I'll jump up and put her on 3 for about 5 minutes, after which I'll go back to sleep. I also noticed that there is less dust in the room, so the air purifier is definitely doing its job. We've had it for about a month now and it's still working perfectly. We noticed a slight increase in our electricity bill, so I started turning it off during the day when we're at work and only turning it on at night. I'd happily pay $10 more a month for electricity so I don't have to wake up every night to the dangers. YMMV, especially if you leave it at 1. The unit was easy to assemble and hopefully the cat hair doesn't kill the filters so we have to change the pre-filter every 3 months and the HEPA filter annually. that would be an additional $36 per year. noise very quiet fan; At 1 I can barely hear it and at 3 it's white noise. No annoying squeaks or clicks to keep you awake. A light breeze blows nearby; something to consider if you put it next to your bed in winter. The instructions initially warned about the smell; We left the device running for about 10 minutes and it resolved immediately. Like motor oil or plastic, nothing overwhelming, but if you're really sensitive, run it in an open area and let it sit for a few minutes. I haven't smelled that smell since then, even with the device on all night. Recommended for older cats with toilet problems, cooks preparing broccoli and cauliflower in a home that's closed for the winter, and when a spouse just needs to fry eggs at 4am. I think asthmatics and kids might like it too.
