Beware of non-standard microphone clamp connection!

Great quality for such a low price. I use it to hold my microphone for streaming. One thing that really let me down about this mount is the non-standard mic clip thread size, hence the 4 star rating. I didn't even look it up in the description as it seems relatively absurd that they simply chose to use their own custom size. This basically means you have to use the microphone clip that comes with the kit. If your mic is not a standard mic that will fit in this clamp like many types of condenser mics, this type is NOT for you. For example I bought this mic which didn't use a mic clip but instead built a screw into the mic itself and found that the threaded connection on the bottom didn't fit! This microphone has a standard size plug but no boom. FIFINE TECHNOLOGY USB Microphone, FIFINE Plug & Play Home Studio USB Condenser Microphone for Skype, YouTube Recording, Google Voice Search, Games (Windows/Mac) - K668. That's why getting into the top 20 won't work with this boom. What I was able to do was clip my mic into the clip that came with this boom. It should have stretched pretty well and is probably messed up for every other mic by now, but it works for me and the price is right. On a positive note the springs and boom are pretty strong, stay in place pretty well, move easily etc. Overall it works great for me but if I took it for some other reason or accidentally bought a mic , which just wouldn't suit me, I would be very disappointed by it. So be careful! UPDATE: Okay, I just did a little research after writing this review. It seems a bit strange that these tabletop mics come with a 3/8" screw jack like this. I'm a musician and I've never seen this type of connection. I've always looked at a 5/8" jack. 8 inch connector that comes with every mic I've bought. Some of the other booms I just found come with an adapter that you screw into the boom to change to a 5/8" mic clamp. Here is an example of one: On Stage MA200 5/8" Male to 3/8" Mic Screw Adapter. Allows you to attach a standard microphone clip. I've updated my rating to 5 stars as that was my only complaint and it seems easy to rectify.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
