Review on πŸ“» Uniden BC72XLT Handheld Scanner: Compact and Powerful in Sleek Black Design by Jeff Jemison

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good basic scanner with the best security and surveillance features

The Uniden BC72XLT handheld scanner gives good results, especially on signals close to the user. I've used it in both a marine environment and an airport, and the scanner snaps into place quickly. The sound isn't the best with the built-in speaker, but it's great with in-ear headphones and we highly recommend it. Scanner programming requires a lot of learning, but becomes child's play after a few repetitions. The manual helps, but it's written vaguely. Learning the scan keys is also not an easy path. It reminds me of a former digital alarm clock that required learning multiple keystroke sequences to get it working. Once mastered, it is easy to use. The option of storing scan frequencies in one of the 10 directories is very useful. In my case I have distress frequencies at 1, port traffic at 2, corporate frequencies at 3. I have two airports nearby, air traffic at 7 and 8 and ground control at 9 and 10. The proximity detector works fine. I collected all types of traffic from construction sites to haulage companies. Not having an 800+ band is not a problem in my area because our police traffic is encrypted! I can follow firefighters' movements and in many cases I find that they are the first to react. Battery life is good. The ability to use and charge rechargeable batteries is great. I find it useful to take some spares with me. I would give the Uniden BC72XLT handheld scanner a very good rating in terms of value for money.
