The power tailgate on my Lexus RX350 did not work automatically. When the power door switch activated, he opened the latch mechanism, lifted the door about an inch, groaned a little, decided it was too heavy to continue, and then closed it again completely. Manual opening and closing of the door was possible with little effort. I did some research on the internet, watched some tutorial videos on YouTube and bought this Tuff Support Trunk Hatch Liftgate. The delivery time was a few weeks longer than stated. but with scheduled arrival. Installation was easier than expected.1. Open the door fully and put a ladder under it to hold the door open.2. Use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the top retaining clip on the existing post. After moving the retaining clip, the ball joint can be easily separated. Repeat at the bottom to completely remove the existing rack.3. Make sure the new post is properly aligned and apply pressure to align the ball and socket at the top and bottom (the locking clip does not need to be moved during installation, it is spring loaded and snaps into place with moderate pressure ). 4. Repeat 2 and 3 on the other side. When replacing both racks, the door opened automatically on the first try. The closing function initially faltered (I suspect the piston pressure was more than normal) but after a few iterations things seem to have improved and the opening and closing functions are now working properly. So far I'm happy with my purchase; I just hope this feature lasts for a few more years.
