I wasn't sure what to expect from a towel, I've never had a Turkish towel before. I needed something to take with me to Costa Rica where we will be visiting many beaches and I didn't want to take a "beach towel". This one is thicker than I expected so it will work for a rocky beach. You can get thinner/cheaper towels for shallower/sandy beaches that are a bit more compact. It's REALLY soft, softer than the other lighter Turkish towel I took for the trip, so using it as a makeshift blanket would also work. One downside is that it seemed to lose quite a bit when I received it. I know it says "prewashed" but I think you should still wash it to prevent further shedding of the fibers - I noticed much less of that after washing.
