Review on 🏁 SCHWALBE Thunder Burt: Race-Ready Folding Bead Tire with Enhanced Guard by Orlando Mohr

Revainrating 1 out of 5

I was very happy with the weight and grip of this tire.

This one star is not given for the tire itself, but for the Race Guard version of this tire and its tubeless capabilities - or lack thereof. It was a surprisingly fast tyre. It's almost 120 grams lighter than the Racing Ralph, which was very noticeable as the spinning weight is 1.7 times the static weight. I was very happy with the weight and grip of this tire in both hardpack and drypack (that sticky medium you get about a day and a half after it rains). What I hated about this tire was that it never mounted properly with Stan's snot. I could hear it sucking air after I filled it. I took the tire off, swiveled Stan (and yes, I had 3 ounces in it - I've never pumped more than 1.5 ounces into any other 29er tubeless tire I've ever had), and then I heard punctures were sealed by Stan, and an hour later it inevitably flattened out. I did this routine for a week before finally giving up and ordering the SnakeSkin version of this tire. On the SS version I put the bead on with my supercharger, put in 2oz, inflated the tire with air, heard the air leak like siv, spun the stan around then nothing, no air leaks. Three hours later there's still 30 pounds in the tire. I can't wait for the track to dry again so I can run this tire without losing pressure.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not sure
