Not wanting to pay as much to fix my dishwasher as it would cost to buy a new one, I decided to fix it myself. It didn't work so I couldn't break it any worse. The troubleshooting steps showed that the problem was with the pump motor. I pulled out the dishwasher and turned it on its back (it wasn't difficult at all because the builder of this house installed a "cheap" unit and it's all plastic, which makes it VERY light). Youtube is full of DIY videos and once I found what I needed it only took me an hour to pull out and replace an old broken pump motor. Test cycle, check carefully for leaks. Since I found NO leaks, I declared the repair successful. Now the dishwasher works just as well as before.
