Review on πŸ”‹ Enhanced Durability: Wirenest Buell ECM Programming Cable, Now in Rugged Version by Shane Loredo

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works well, supports live diagnostics via EcmSpy.

Supports latest EcmSpy and drivers work for Windows 10 as advertised. Had no problems diagnosing the settings and tweaking the tune on my 2000 Buell X1 Lightning. There are some caveats to being able to run a live diagnostics stream and make adjustments at the same time, but it's an old ECM and a plain old serial connection, so I'm not surprised that the product itself works as advertised. Other reviewers have mentioned a tight connection and I agree that the molding on the connector is too big where the rubber gasket is. It's really easy to fix by simply removing the rubber grommet from the connector and then plugging and unplugging with ease. It's not like I'm going to plug this in and brace for the pouring rain, so it's not really a problem, just a minor design flaw as technically it should be a Deutsch plug. Finally, the wires coming out of the port and to the USB end are tiny. You shouldn't have a good reason to pull the cable, but my bike ran a little rough and moved a bit, so I had to constantly make sure the cable had enough slack. Given that the USB cable itself is quite thick, it would have been nice to have thicker wires coming out of the connector. With all that, he's doing his job and I'm very satisfied. You may need to try all the different connection options if you're not sure what type of ECM you have. Mine was marked "racing" ECM but when that option was selected the connection failed. I had to select the "stocks" option in EcmSpy. Some connection attempts can be a bit finicky, make sure all your cables are fully connected.

Pros
  • Dream come true
Cons
  • Slightly dented
