I just got my unitek ide/sata drive in the mail and an hour later I got information about my lenovo machine (win 7) which died after a power failure. I think I'm using the SATA drive side. I was one of those lazy, dumb people who didn't really back up except to a computer (sometimes to an external hard drive, but not for long). It pained me to think of all the information I might have lost. I'm still learning how to access my password manager which was also local to the computer (no next time LOL I don't smoke to use the cloud anymore!). I found out that these types of devices exist through a video on You Tube, and another video showed me that I had to undo a few screws to easily remove the tower's hard drive. the local garage with all my tax info, passwords etc in their hands. They wouldn't need my password to access my computer (I wouldn't give it), but if I could just remove the hard drive and do it, they could use it for the dark web. I really appreciated this device. I suppose the experience depends on the type and style of machines but for me it was better money spent getting my info and safer.
