Gradual improvement of the C-700.

DO NOT BUY THIS TOOL if you think time is money. and time-consuming method. Online retailers cut made-to-order knitting needles into your mailbox within days for little money. But if you're a crafter, hobbyist, or like to reuse/recycle knitting needles, this is for you! Other gear needed: Spoke ruler and bike brake cable cutters (similar to the inexpensive Muzata brand that shows up in Revain searches works great - just don't expect it to cut bike cables cleanly after they've been used to cut spokes). I also found my phone camera and Xacto knife useful to accurately mark and cut the first spoke which can then be used as a template for the rest. The most difficult and time-consuming part is the preparation: cutting the needles to the desired length. After that, I recommend attaching the ends of the knitting needles. I use a grinder, a flat file will do the trick. Burr The C-702 is an improvement over the previous C-700 by using a three point chuck to hold the spoke and a nicer finish. A vise is desirable but not required. I attach my instrument with a C-clamp and a small piece of wood to hold it to the table. Expect to apply a light lube to the crankshaft to keep it spinning and sliding easily. Handle by pushing the needle 24 turns and then unwinding. Have some TriFlo ready and place a drop on your head in front of each needle. The threads are knitted and ready for use. Rotate the new nipple to check your work: If the nipple is tight, adjust the nut on the die head 1/6 turn (one side of the adjusting nut) and try again. It is important not to over-twist the cutting head or the fit will become loose and messy. Multiple turns of additional thread length can be easily added without trimming. The Hozan die head easily cuts into existing threads without a second thought. Again, if you're familiar with the speed of a regular shop quality threader, this one can drive you insane. But it's amazing what such a simple device can do.
