I already had a setup like this but decided to try this one as it had a 12 month filter instead of the 6 month filter I originally had. The important things first. This device was remarkably similar to something I was already using, if it weren't for the key part of the filter I could just pop it in and use the setup I already had. But you can't put a circle that a square goes in, and that might have been a flaw in that plan if I removed the key, but that would be a problem too, as you'd be putting all the rotational power into the seals, and this can lead to a leak. I found the square screw layout to be perfect when I just wanted to swap out separators for assemblies, but I chose to keep these and just move one screw 1/2 inch apart. Now after a very simple installation I run the water for about 10 minutes just to clear out anything that may have been there from production and taste the water. It was a definite improvement over what I was using. It's true I was at the end of my 6 month filter life but it was nice and refreshing. Reminded me of pure spring water when I lived in Alaska. To be honest, it was the slight sweetness that reminded me of it, but otherwise it tasted completely harmless, the way filtered water should be. I would recommend this filter. serves me well
