I purchased these pants primarily for travel and work as they are light weight and can be converted to shorts. The zippered pockets are nice to keep things from falling out. I like the fact that there is a special strap and button on the bottom of the pants legs to allow for raising the pants leg which I think would be good for hiking. They also have a velcro strap on the very bottom to tighten them up around the leg when needed. I think the black color looks quite good and these double as dress pants for me which was my primary reason for purchasing them. The fabric used is quite smooth to the touch and comfortable. I have been converting them to shorts on warm days which works very well. The bottom portion of the legs are zipped on and off which takes only about a minute. Overall I have been pleased with these pants/shorts.
