Well, first of all I should say that I've skipped Blu-ray because of the price and the completeness of the format. Currently, this player does not support 2.0 profile, but it supports 1.1. Samsung has promised support for 2.0 in a future firmware but there are conflicting reports about it and the box has the BD Live Ready logo on it. Regardless of whether Samsung is false advertising or not, I'm going to get my hands on the 2.0 profile player one way or another. BUT as for the player, yes, you need a receiver that supports all the major codecs to make it shine. As far as I've seen, it's the most responsive player and the launch and load times are extremely quick. It really blew me away firing my first CD in just 10 seconds. In general, the player's performance is not bad, and the 2-channel analog is very good. Best of all, the turntable is completely silent in operation, you can hear a pin drop when it's on. Now for the cons. No BD Live content is currently playing, it's doubtful it ever will be. Samsung has been quoted enough times that it will be 2.0 compatible and labeled it as you would expect on the box. Second, the player only has 2 analog channels, which means you'll need a digital receiver to get 5.1 or more. The main disadvantages are the decoding of DTS MA and Dolbey True HD. DTS MA is not currently supported but may be included in a future update. The disadvantage of Dolby True HD is that it can only internally decode into 2 channels. Now if you have a receiver that can decode streaming audio, none of this will really affect you as the receiver fills in the gaps. All in all, if that price keeps dropping, this player is worth it if you've got what it takes. beautiful. By the way, this is a really nice player that looks very minimalistic. If this player doesn't update to profile 2.0, Samsung will hate my constant daily calls :) NEW post on 06/14/2009 I've decided to update this review. and let everyone who wants this player know I'm still doing great. The player is indeed profile 2.0 after a firmware update and has been for some time. I also took one of my old 8GB USB sticks and plugged it back in to add storage for the device and it works like a charm. If you have a good receiver and TV with HDMI I don't see the point in spending hundreds more on other devices, this will play movies and do well. The HDMI port levels the playing field with a direct digital signal.
