When this thing works, it's perfect. Beyond that, however, there are some notable downsides (at least for the headset I received). My headset may not have had a mute button. It works when it's on, but turning the mic on only works if you unplug and plug it back in. Something is also wrong with the way he wired the mute switch/plug zone. In most cases, a slight movement of the head will squeeze the cable and the speaker will turn off. You can usually tell when it's supposed to happen because there's a static pop-like noise a few times before it shuts down completely. The microphone still works, but there's no point in speaking and hearing nothing in reply. Reconnecting the headset can be quite a hassle even in the middle of fairly intense games (Call of Duty/Halo Firefights/Fastbreaks in NBA 2K, etc.).
