I used to use amber incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). My recent purchase of Hansang Model.HB-QP21 Amber LED Lights has proven to be the most effective against nocturnal insects. Incandescent and CFLs emitted a wide enough spectrum of light to penetrate the UV and bluish regions attractive to insects - they worked, but perhaps 80% more efficiently. LEDs are essentially single-wavelength emitters that are limited to a very narrow spectral range and also emit less heat, which is also a bait for insects. Since installing Hansang LEDs in indoor and outdoor porch and patio lights, I have seen very few insects attracted to the light. Some moths are attracted to all lights, but Hansang lights are the best I've found. My region is currently besieged by the annual pre-winter fall swarm of brown marbled (Asian) stinkers. You will not be attracted to this LED light. Lamp size A19 fits most indoor lights. I have not used these lamps as indoor night lights, but it is widely recommended to eliminate blue light as a soft light to prepare for sleep and reduce glare on computer and smartphone screens. I had the opportunity to raise an inquiry with their customer service department, their response was prompt, polite and comprehensive.
