Review on 🔪 Microplane 34006 4-Sided Stainless Steel Ultra-Sharp Multi-Purpose Box Grater - Large 10 inch, Black: Superior Kitchen Tool for Efficient Grating by Alesha Adams

I would love to give this grater five stars but to be honest I can only give three. I LOVE this grater - it shreds, slices and grates with ease. The blades are so sharp they'll slide through whatever you're grinding or cutting. The side of the zester slides out so you can use it individually without having to wash the entire unit. So why three stars? The plastic case cracks and breaks after a few months of use, eventually cracking and breaking to the point of rendering the device unusable. I'm actually on the second grater and again at this point - need to replace it. Should I shell out another $35 for a grater I can't use for another 6 months? Or am I looking for something else? The only thing I can think of that might be the problem is that maybe the plastic material used isn't really dishwasher safe? The Revain list clearly says "dishwasher safe", as does the original Microplane packaging. I prefer to wash the device in the dishwasher because it gets really clean there than by hand. I should have tried hand washing the second block just to test my theory, but I didn't. I don't know if I want to buy a third one to "experiment" especially when I have the same problem. I will contact Microplane directly and give direct feedback. They can't fix a problem if they don't know the problem exists. I really want to replace my grater but am not sure yet. fool me once shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me. My common sense tells me not to buy a third grater. UPDATE 03/10/16. A few months ago I contacted Microplane and expressed my dissatisfaction with the quality of this product as other reviewers have done. I provided them with pictures of the damage to my grater and they promptly sent me a free replacement. I've had this grater for a while now and it hasn't shown any cracks, chips or other signs of damage. Maybe they fixed the problems with this grater? UPDATE 08/14/18. The grater I got from the company (noted in my last update 03/10/16) still works! Still sharp and absolutely no cracks in the plastic case. Washed dozens of times in the dishwasher, no signs of wear. Very satisfied with the model replaced by the manufacturer.
