This is a great and great value knitting kit that has everything you need to get started if you are a beginner or want to keep a spare needle set handy. I usually knit my pieces with a set of Hiya-Hiya interchangeable needles, but I needed a couple of straight needles to complete a difficult set. For my purposes they were perfect and they worked very well. For those who will be using mostly straight needles and will be knitting a lot of heavy stuff, you can certainly spend the money (which was less than $12 for me) and find out if it works for you or not without much regret. However, only time will tell. I started using metal and stainless steel, especially when I was learning to knit, because I tended to warp wood or bamboo over time. I never liked the feel of aluminum colored needles so my next choice was stainless steel. I believe they're stainless steel, but they're hollow so they don't feel as strong as solid stainless steel needles once you're used to them. However, just because they're actually made of stainless steel doesn't necessarily mean they're any less durable. So if you are looking for a complete set I think they are worth trying. And if they warp a bit over time, you can have a whole collection of replacement needles for just over $10.
