As others have said THE KEYS ARE TOO FAT!

Deere 3038e tractor. The keys were not inserted into the ignition switch. I had to file all the edges; top, bottom, front and back to make them work. This is a very common key. I think it's not that hard to get the specs right. One star can be difficult, but it seems to be an ongoing problem that nobody tries to fix before the keys are shipped. The flat file also told me that the keys "bowed" from top to bottom. The flat file cuts the edges from the top and bottom of the key, not the middle (where the slot is).
