Review on πŸ’» Enhance Your Labeling Needs with the Brother P-Touch PT-P700 Label Maker - PC Connectable Efficiency at its Best! by Eric Budd

Your brother is NOT trying to steal from you.

Brother will not try to knock you out of the feed. Look at the tape cassette. This is a three part system: black media, laminate and the self-adhesive label. At the exit you will see a feed roller that pulls them together and laminates them. There is no laminated label that does not start, otherwise two parts would stick. This initial part is the part that will be cut out. The only thing they could do was move the printhead closer to the feed wheel, but you can just get these little ones (without paying $35 a cartridge) and you'll save another 1/4 inch or so. .314" roll. So far my labels have been just over an inch, so maybe 300 labels. Some (very) rough math: -10 labels per strip, 10% wastage with that cut end. 10% of 300 sheets with 270 usable labels at $9 per 1/2" white cartridge is 3.3 cents per label. -6 labels per strip, 17% loss with that cut end. 17% out of 300 leaves 249 usable labels at $9 per cartridge, what Equivalent to 3.6 cents per label - 1 label at a time, 50% loss with end cut 50% of 300 leaves 150 usable labels for $9 per cassette which is 6.0 cents per label Money for this business 40- $45 for a printer and $9-11 for a complex three piece laminating cassette. Check out this cassette. That's great. It would be difficult for anyone to produce the same thing for the same price and it would still cut an inch of tape .I used lego pieces see which are more expensive than this. You're not paying for X amount of ribbon, you're paying for the engineering that enables this machine to print long-lasting labels quickly, reliably and without jams. I've been to enough commercial/industrial thermal and laser labelers to know the waste. All the misfeeds, paper jams, alignment issues, carbon tape hanging, hours of repairing, wasted hours in warehousing/packaging/shipping. You throw away the cost of that printer and ribbon together at least weekly, sometimes daily. All this to say that I hope this printer lasts a while. I am very impressed with the quality of the label. I would also like them to remove the battery pack area and make it smaller, but I think some people will need this on site. If Brother really wanted to scam you, they would have offered an additional $80 battery like Chinese tool makers (Milwaukee, DeWalt) do.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Corrupt

Yes, it is wasteful, but it is still a great label maker
