I have 3 birds and have used about 10 different types of cages over the years. Powder coated, stainless steel, aluminum etc. For what it is (a lightweight little birdcage) the Prevue Madison is great IF you can get it intact. I ordered two before Christmas because I had to plant the birds. (I wouldn't use it as a permanent home for most birds unless they are out of the cage all the time. Not enough room.) One arrived like someone had sat on it. The other was in better condition but contained china bowls for an "upgrade". One of the china bowls was broken. I think ceramic/porcelain is a great material and would be easier to clean than small plastics, but they are much more brittle. I'm also concerned about the weight. I don't think it could have fallen into the cage due to the structure, but if it did it could hurt the bird. I use Madison as a temporary shelter for small to medium sized birds (kennel/caik). I like it better than the square black Prevue parrot cage which has 2 side handles, 3 food bowls and a removable but NOT EXTENDABLE gate. Warning about this cage: The lack of a retractable gate is a nuisance. The droppings slide down the side of the bottom of the cage, get under the plastic tray, and unless all of your perches are raised very high, you can't just lift the wire tray to clear those awkward debris in the back. Pros of the Madison cage: + Removable SLIDE OUT grill (and tray) + Light weight + Food and water bowls with outside access + Fairly large (I wouldn't use it as a long-term shelter for caiques) + Relatively solid construction (while it was there comes in this form)) + Easy to find table for installation (no need for a special stand, which is discontinued by the manufacturer). with small chips where you can see the base metal on top and next to the door hinge) - rungs not the strongest (bigger birds can easily bend them) - hinged front door, inferior to the side door in my opinion - only 2 food bowls - no handles to move . Other things to note: * The cage does not have a proper floor ie. In fact, this is just a frame in which to insert the tray and grate. I don't really care, but if I was taking the bird outside in a cage, I would tie the bars to the cage or find some other way to secure it. first bird cage 20 years ago (just more things to clean, birds have a lot more range anyway. Use other floor and wall protection methods). arrived safely. *Cannot choose whether you will receive plastic or porcelain bowls. 5 stars for intact Madison cages as they fit my specific purpose (boarding school cage). I also have large cages for them to live in and smaller transport cages for traveling by car. Damn birds need 3 cages each haha.
