Normal gravel tires, especially in 700cx40

Totally normal. I bought a pair in 700cx40 and 650bx47. The 700c actually measures around 38mm, so it's really not as big and flexible as you'd hope. Pretty nice to ride tubeless, installed with no fuss, but the problem is puncture resistance. The third ride suffered a major cut in the side profile, and a minor scratch on the rim about 50 miles later caused the sidewall tubeless setup to fail. 650bx47mm is a much better tire. Just as easy to install, measuring 47.5-47.8mm unlike the 700c version. Because it is such a large tire, the ride is very smooth. Rode about 180 miles and couldn't hit the rim, even at low pressure on mountain trails (23psi!). It's very comfortable gliding over small rocks and bumps that bother narrower tires. I like the way they roll on tarmac, they're very similar to other semislicks I've ridden (700c version, the 650b version obviously makes them a lot stronger). rolls a little slower). The side lugs are okay at best, they are noticeable on the road around corners and they don't grip as well as I would have liked in loose gravel corners. If you're on the road more than 65% that's probably good enough, but off-road, singletrack and dirtier terrain grip is a little lackluster. The biggest benefit I've noticed is the size - the 650bx47 is great for handling varied terrain, but it's not purely a WTB thing. Aside from being so big, these tires aren't amazing, they're just plain good. Overall they are pretty good but in terms of cost and performance I will look at other options for my next tires.
