Review on πŸ–₯️ Mac-compatible Sonnet Breakaway Puck Radeon RX 5500 XT eGPU by Mark Jefferson

Ignore a review saying they returned it.

Let's get one thing straight. If you are investigating WHY you need this EGPU, you should know how to use it. FIRST, IGNORE A REVIEW STATING THAT IT WAS A WASTE AND THAT ANOTHER WOULD BE BETTER. I have no idea how someone who uses a Mac and buys one doesn't know how to actually switch to a different graphics card in the search options. If you want a real review, read on. I'm using a 2020 Macbook Air with it (yes, the one that suffers from "overheating" issues). I used it as an ultraportable. After owning several gaming laptops and not having much time to play games, I settled on the 2020 Macbook Air. I just want to improve the graphics quality for very light gaming, video editing and photoshop. However, let's be clear. This thing is NOT meant for hardcore gaming. Attached are two pictures. One of the default benchmarks is Intel Iris Heaven and the other used Sonnet Puck. I must say. There was a WORLD difference in testing. I've been looking for one of these portable washing machines for the past few years since I got my 2020 Macbook Air. I wanted something I could pack into and travel separately if needed due to the amount of travel I do. I was misled by the photos of the device and once I finally get it I will definitely need to change my EDC case. I was desperate for a better setup so I could do 3D rendering and not have to worry about constant CPU thermal throttling. Although I actually wanted to get the RX 560 last year, I'm definitely glad I waited for it. Its characteristics compared to the 560 made it worth it.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
