This reader was purchased on April 23, 2014, easy to install and I had high expectations as it looks reliable. Unfortunately when I was using it two days ago I didn't respond when I inserted the SD card and that's when I noticed the power light was off. After reinstalling the connector on the motherboard (to no avail), I removed the device from the computer and opened it up. The internal circuitry consists of a small circuit board with all the electronics and two connectors that connect to the motherboard cable using standard USB 3.0 connector types. USB 3.0 port on the back of my computer (this uses a different USB 3.0 host controller than the motherboard port). The device is still not numbered, so it is clear that the board is dead. Considering the mild office environment this unit was installed in I would say this is a very unreliable unit and I would not buy any other.
