Great for filling in the dead zone on the other side of the house!

I received my Cisco 4410 WAP today, everything is connected. Good stuff. This is the situation I had: I have a router from the IP on one side of the house. My office is on the other side. When I close the door to my office, my devices don't even see my wireless router on the other side of the house. The Cisco 4410 Wireless Access Point fixed all of that. Works great, but only after you understand a few things. First connect it to the SP router via one of the category 5 ports. In a minute you will see a new wireless network from the device. I think the default name was Ciscosp or something. It's great - you can surf the web and that's great. But of course you want to be able to customize the damn thing. Here's how: The default IP address for WAP is 192.168.1.245. But it works with DHCP (ie dynamic IP) and if it does, you can't find it. Here's what I had to do: Connect my MBP to the WAP using an Ethernet cable. Now I have his attention. I went to 192.168.1.245 and was able to set it up. UN/PW - admin/admin.1) First step: On the Setup/Basic Setup screen: Change Network Setup from DHCP to Static IP Address. And now change the local IP address to 192.168.1.245. Now you know how to find it and it doesn't jump because of DHCP. Set the subnet mast to 255.255.255.0 and "point it to" your SP router. That is, set the default gateway to 192.168.1.1 (which is usually the address of your SP router). CLICK SAVE, change the time zone while in the 'Settings' section. 2) Go to the "Wireless Network" section. IMPORTANT: In the field of wireless networking, it is important to do two things. First, change the radio channel from the default to Option 11 - 2.462 GHz. This reduces interference. Next enter the SSID. USE THE SAME NAME AS YOUR SP ROUTER. So if your WAN shows up as JonesHouse on your devices, use JonesHouse as the SSID here. You might be tempted to use JonesHouse2. But not. Use JonesHouse - the idea is that your devices can seamlessly switch from WAP to your SP router as you move around the house. So use the same SSID. That's the whole point. HIT SAVEWireless/Security: Make sure your new SSID is listed above, which will only happen if you saved it in the previous step. Now you probably want the SPA staff to be here for safe mode. Enter TKIP as WPA Algorithm Enter the Pre-Shared Key - use the same key you use on the SP router! Enable wireless web access so you can connect to this pup from your wireless devices instead of always being connected to the SP modem. get ready to go A NOTICE. I actually have a dedicated VPN router from work in my office that connects to my Category 5 cable in my office. So I connect to this VPN router and it takes me back to the VPN server in RTP from TPA. So I bought a $12 ethernet switch from local staples (D-Link something like that). Connected an ethernet switch to my cat 5. Then connected a 4410 WAP to one port and a VPN router to another. Everything works great! Now I can fully connect to my SP router network from my office! And I can use my VPN router. I hope you find it useful.
