Review on Schneider Electric HOM115CP Square Single Pole by Bill Russett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good fenders and reasonable prices.

I've been using Homeline for many years and have found it to be a reliable and economical alternative to the Square D QO...the one with the reading flag in the window. The price difference for just a single pole switch is almost double that of Homeline. The switch savings make this alternative very viable, especially when adding a new load center with more switches, and the load centers are almost the same as the Square D with the only noticeable difference being the busbar. I've never seen a homeline switch go off after doing something stupid. Without the flag it's a bit more difficult to determine which breakers have been triggered, but since breaker triggers shouldn't be a common occurrence I can live with that. I just replaced a Zinsco panel when moving to a new service and with about 30 new switches, 12 of which were double pole due to the electrical heating of the base plate, I probably have about $150 plus another hundred for switches alone saved for two panels. . . took this zinsco as a replacement. The Zinsco breakers never went off...not even when I ran a circular saw through several Romex lines and removed the roof and skylight for an annex that had pretty bad wiring. The Square D QO is the best product, but for home use I can't justify the rather large increase in cost if I don't keep using Homeline. I was an electrical contractor in a past life and I doubt there is a panel or switch manufacturer that I have not encountered and I would rank Homeline high on the list.
