They clean our cast iron pans perfectly. Simply scrape and rinse, wipe with paper towel and re-oil; everything is ready to go. :) One downside I've found with the grooved ones is that they don't quite fit the grill pan I have - the teeth are either too thick or not evenly spaced and so I have to use them at an angle to get them in to scratch the grooves . However, when I looked at my grill pan, I realized that it was not a Lodge brand cast iron grill pan, but a fake - maybe that's why it doesn't fit! to be cool scraping it - I started using a scalloped one on my grill pan just to melt the edges a bit. It was oops on my part; otherwise they work very well!
