This excellently made product is without a doubt one of the most used tools in my workshop and I use it many times a day. Why? Because there are dozens of measuring situations for which measuring tapes, rulers and set squares are anything but ideal tools. Check the tip thickness. Measure screw shank and thread diameter. Check the groove depth. Pay attention to the thickness of the workpiece coming out of the machine. Measure the notch of the blade. Make sure it is a 5/16" router bit and not a 3/8" router bit. The fractional reading wheel is a blessing and no conversions are required. Thousandth readings are also on the dial, but you don't have to convert them if you don't want to. All in all, I don't know how any serious carpenter could do without one of these. They are so useful, I have two of them. As an American company that produces the highest quality products, Starrett deserves universal support.
