I have had this kennel for almost 10 years now. I admit it feels a bit flimsy because the wood is on the thinner side. 3 dogs passed. When I first bought it it had a Jack Russell Terrier and a Portuguese Water Dog (PWD). I immediately put a nice little foam mattress in and replaced it with other pillows over the years, but there was always something on the bottom for comfort. There are no cracks in the wood at the moment. Eventually my 17 year old terrier died and I adopted a 9 year old Doberman Pinscher. I didn't want him to come in, but he did. He liked to roll around in it and look out. He also had Kuranda outside, but he liked the coziness of the house. Now the disabled person would climb over the Doberman and rest there. So I was sure that this so-called weak kennel wouldn't support the weight of these two, but it didn't happen. Well, these two dogs are now 12 and 15 years old. Now I have a spitz and a chihuahua and they are mostly house dogs and they would probably get rid of the house eventually. Be sure to place a thick pillow or foam mattress on the bottom for comfort and even weight distribution. Would I buy this again? I think I would return to the igloo as it was a few decades ago.
