Review on ๐Ÿ“ธ Enhanced Vehicle Backup and Hitch Alignment Camera by Master Lock with 3.5 Inch Color Monitor by Patrick Arnautov

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Smaller than expected, good for vehicle and car electronics

In fairness, the parts that come with it are really good and worthy of praise, but the signal reception is a big disappointment. Of course this works from time to time and will work well enough that I can save this article and get by with it when it's attached to a trailer. The signal strength just isn't strong enough to reach from the tailgate to the dash of a full-size Chevy pickup truck with a 6.5-inch body and an extended tongue. I have a trailer wiring connector to plug into my factory 7-pin connector, which offers both a 4-pin connector and a 12-pin cigarette lighter socket, allowing me to connect a camera (transmitter unit) and monitor (receiver unit) side-by-side. another and check the signal quality. When they are close together the picture quality is perfect, but when they are 3 feet apart lines start to appear on the monitor screen. The further I moved them apart, the more lines appeared. There were times when all the lines disappeared and the picture was perfect for about 10 seconds and then went static again for another 10 seconds or so. The monitor has 4 channels to choose from, but there is no way to change the transmission channel on the camera from the default channel 4. So I can't test them. I haven't tried taking the camera apart and seeing if there's anything inside that would allow me to select a different channel and see if that helps. If I'm successful I'll update this review with the results. The magnet in the camera body is also rather weak. It's good enough for temporary use, but if you plan to leave it in place then a larger mount will be needed.

Pros
  • Trailer wiring connects to a continuous T-connector on camera port for use during towing
Cons
  • repair work
