If you have factory hood insulation, the gasket will cause the top of the air intake to flex at the gasket. I took it off because I suspected that air was getting into the engine without crossing the MAF, making the engine appear weaker. I took it off and it seems to fix it. I didn't notice any difference in performance or MPG upon installation. I only bought it because I had extra money and time.
