Recently our cable/internet provider (Cox) switched to a fully digital encrypted signal. The Cisco DTA 250HD Mini Box is now required for ALL televisions that were previously connected directly to the house cable. With this mini box converter, all TVs without a real set top box can still receive an encrypted digital signal. Your remote had minimal TV control; He just turned on the TV and adjusted the volume. So you need two remotes - yours and the TV's - for the full functionality we had BEFORE the change. I saw these RCRH02BR RCA remotes and loved their compact size, simple layout, large buttons, and TV and converter controls. Crate. All white buttons glow light green in the dark, which makes it much easier to use at night. Installed a new Cisco Mini Box, hooked up all the wiring and started programming. Setting up the TV was quick and everything worked out great. However, there was a problem setting up the new Cisco Mini Box converter that was now required. It will NEVER turn off without unplugging the power adapter. So what happens when you do a code lookup with the RCA remote, the step where you wait for the device to turn off - well, that never happens. So you never know when and if you have the right code, and you can't change channels without that "connection". Even trying to enter the code manually failed with the converter. I tried every code I could find that might work; Cisco, Motorola etc. without success. (No, I haven't looked at all the code's possibilities as I don't have a few days to try them all). I emailed RCA/Audiovox support regarding the remote control, but their reply pretty much confirmed that this remote control does not work with this converter. So we have to use the cable TV provider's remote control and keep the TV remote control handy when we need it. I really don't think I can blame the remote control for this problem. Therefore I am unfortunately sending back two purchased remote controls. I see remote controls that can 'learn' signals and I have one of these for our main TV with set top box and DVD HD burner. However, these "learning" remotes typically want to control more than 4 devices and are cluttered with buttons I don't need or need. If I see this basic RCA remote in a "learning" version I will buy 4 or more of these before they are discontinued. So if you have a TV and a converter that actually turns itself off with a remote then definitely this RCA remote as it's really nice. If you want to control a converter like mine, I would advise you to give up this remote control and look for a more functional and sophisticated one.
