They offer additional protection against the cold.
I wish they were a little bigger for more wind protection. But I said the same thing about the Acerbis shields they are installed on. As other reviewers have said, don't think you'll just slip them on and go. Attaching requires some work, e.g. B. drilling out the hand guard for the mounting rails. Not difficult, but you have to be careful what you're doing.
