Our little dog fits perfectly in a cage and should be comfortable but doesn't and struggles with the enclosure. So the question really is if the cage will hold an 18 pound dog that doesn't want to be caged. Short answer: no. Our little ball of joy opens the door without any problems. It's not like she opens the bolts, she can actually open the door. She has done this at least 6 times in the past 4 weeks. This is not an ideal situation. We are donating this kennel to a local rescue operation who will be able to use it to transport a hopefully calmer cat or dog. If you have an obedient dog that doesn't mind a crate this will work, if you have a box fighting pup and want the crate to win then this is not a crate for your little bundle of joy. This is the reason for 2 stars. The design of the box is good, the workmanship is good. It's a very valuable asset in terms of value, it just doesn't help us.
